He continues pushing negotiators to complete work on the package.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York said he would begin the floor process next week for trying to approve a roughly $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure agreement. He told negotiators he wants a vote on Wednesday and they need to resolve any remaining issues over how to pay for the package.
The Wednesday vote would be a procedural vote to test the level of support for the agreement in the 50-50 divided Senate. Senator Schumer also set Wednesday as a deadline to reach an agreement on a $3.5 trillion blueprint for approving much of President Biden’s legislative agenda, including spending on childcare, education, and healthcare. The two pieces of legislation have been linked in hopes of keeping the majority unified while attracting support for the infrastructure plan.
“Everybody has been having productive conversations, and it’s important to keep the two-track process moving,” the Senate majority leader said. “All parties involved in the bipartisan infrastructure bill talks must now finalize their agreement so that the Senate can begin considering that legislation next week.”
